Thanks to your generous giving, we were able to help out three different missions endeavors. From Ukraine to West, TX our Opportunity Fund has been put to good use!

Project 1: Replacement of floor tile at the Village of Hope in Ukraine (Supporting CBF Missionaries the Podgaiskiys). The Village of Hope in Kiev, Ukraine is a ministry to at-risk children. A deserted Russian youth camp was purchased in 2003 to become a residence for the thousands of children who live on, in, or under the city streets. For more info, go to this link: Village of Hope

Project 2: Support for LOVE IS (supporting a Refugee soccer team)

Danny Domingo works in the Vickery Meadows area of Dallas with refugees from all over the world. Realizing that most of these young men loved soccer, Danny began a soccer ministry that serves not only a recreational purpose, but also as a tool for deep discipleship. Project 3: Supporting the Fuentes Family after the West Explosion

After the terrible tragedy in West, I called one of my friends who grew up there and asked if his family was alright. Thankfully, they were fine, but he and his wife knew of many who were not. After this I immediately asked how we could help.

It was then that I was introduced to Flor Fuentes and her family. Mrs. Fuentes is a single mom with 4 kids (from ages 12-17). She lost her home and everything in it. She has one son with special needs.

Flor is a CNA who just recently passed her citizenship test and getting closer to being a full-flegded citizen! Mrs. Fuentes was so very thankful to receive help from our church.

Explosion in West Last night

*Concerning the Explosion in West Last Night*

I am in contact with our folks at the BGCT and DBA as we prepare for ways in which we can help out. Hopefully I’ll know something soon. In the meantime, I just spoke with a representative from Carter in Waco and they need all blood types, so please click on the link below and give blood.

I’ll be updating with more info as it comes in. For now, let’s be in fervent prayer.

WACO (AP) — A blood center that serves Central Texas hospitals says donors are greatly needed due to the massive plant explosion that has injured more than 160 people.

Carter BloodCare said in a statement Thursday that it is sending blood to hospitals treating patients from the explosion in West, near Waco. It says blood “will be in great demand over the next two weeks” as officials work to replenish supplies used after Wednesday’s incident.

Police estimate 5 to 15 people were killed in the explosion at West Fertilizer, which demolished many nearby homes and businesses.

Dallas’ Medical City Hospital is holding a blood drive starting Thursday morning.

Day six

Today we got to see our good friend, Nurse Jenny and talk about future plans and work in Haiti. I also got to treat a yellow-jacket sting with some tobacco (being from Mississippi has its usefulness). Bottom middle pic is of Jean Forché, our gracious host. The last pic says, “Put up or shut up!” More or less.

Today we were able to welcome Mr. Sovet and Madame Emile to their new homes. First time we’ve gotten to do that since we’ve been in Haiti. Really great event in which Brent was able to pray for the new owner. It was a holy experience indeed.

Haiti day five: Wow, This trip is going by quickly! Today we did more manual labor (loading up a big dump truck with rubble for another sight) but after lunch we went to the Haitian market (not the one designed for tourists) and got to experience their culture at a whole new level! After I went snorkeling again (it’s so cool to just be able to walk two miles and be swimming over reefs). Such an amazing country and I am blessed everyday by my experiences! Well today’s work was some of the hardest so far. We filled two dump trucks full of rubble and now we’re all pretty pooped.

Day three

We finally got internet, so please go back and check out the posts you may have missed.

Our third day started early and our work involved lots of shoveling, digging, and unloading of sand that will be sifted and later used for mortar.

Even though our work was hard, we had a great view of the ocean all day. Some of you will remember the river bottom that was very near the school and quite full of trash. There has been quite a bit of work on the river bed and the trash problem doesn’t seem quite as bad.
